As you can guess by the relatively obvious title, this article is all about awesome games that you can get for a low amount of money. I'm going to start this with my all time favourite, time consuming game:
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Oblivion was released in 2006, and still remains to be one of the highest quality games I've played. With the anticipated release of the fifth installment of the Elder Scrolls series, Skyrim, in November this year, now is the perfect time to get into this classic. It has hundreds of hours of playability, and I can confirm that. The quests are immersive, the scenery amazing, and the weaponry badass. Although you will quickly tire of everybody using the same voice (trust me, it's some creepy shit), that is just a minor drawback on such an amazing game. Oblivion is the perfect way to kill your summer, and you can get it on the internet for about a tenner. You can get it on the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The Game of the Year edition can be bought for just £15 on Amazon, but if you were to find it in a shop, it would probably be cheaper.
However, if RPGs aren't your thing, there are more great games you can buy for just as much.
Such as Bioshock.
Bioshock is on the PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3. It's completely unique, and has a setting that you won't find anywhere else (except the sequel). It has some great horror moments, and the NPCs are believable, despite being completely insane. Killing splicers never gets boring, and I'm sure that many of you will enjoy a second playthrough. The effects are brilliant, and the unique idea of "plasmids" - basically spells that you inject - never gets boring. There is always an amazing sense of pride as you slam a flaming teddy bear into a guy wearing a huge diving suit. It is often frantic and fast paced, and always filled with action. Bioshock is amazing to playthrough, considering the awesome storyline, and looking on Amazon, you can find some great deals for it.
You can also find a double pack of Oblivion AND Bioshock, which is, in my opinion, the best deal you could possibly get.
Another awesome, and slightly less serious game that I highly recommend is Borderlands.
It is completely engaging, and great fun to play, especially as a team, which works perfectly on Borderlands. There is an RPG like loot system, and a possible 14 million different combinations of guns and stats. The game is challenging throughout, and you have the amazing option to play through it again a second time, but with the enemies' levels brought up to your level. The replayability of this game is great, and you will want to play through it again (trust me), and maybe even create new characters and play through them twice. It is a completely engaging game, and the cartoon-like graphics are at just the right level, combining highly detailed scenery with funny and cartoony enemies. It's availably on the PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3. Overall, it is great for RPG fans and FPS fans, combining elements for both, and with rumours of a second, it is definitely worth getting. You can get it for £15 on the internet, maybe even cheaper, and it is worth every penny.
Last, but by no means least, comes Wet.
Wet is filled with pure awesome. It's available on only the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. It is completely under-rated (for you indie snobs out there) and because of that is only a tenner on the internet. It has brilliant controls, a great sense of humour and simply amazing cutscenes. The whole thing is in the style of a 70s movie, and the sound track is just epic. For those of you who aren't convinced, you play as a relatively hot woman with FUCKING SWORDS, machine guns, shotguns, pistols and a few other weapons that you can upgrade based on the score you get in each arcade style enemy killing level. You can also upgrade Rubi's (the main character) abilities, allowing her to use ziplines, shoot on ziplines, wallrun, shoot whilst hanging from ledges, and tons of other crazy stuff.
So those are just a few of my favourite old games. I may be doing a second article on the same topic, but it's not certain.
Thanks for reading,
-Liam.
